I had the awesome pleasure of being featured and attending another AFWPI mixer. It was held at the DoubleTree in Orange. Beautiful location! Gussie Miller and Three Across

This weekend, I had the awesome experience of photographing the gentlemen of Three Across. I originally met the band's founder, Gussie Miller, at an AFWPi mixer. Gussie Miller is a singer/songwriter, producer and engineer. Right away I could see that he was someone who had a cool personality, and would be a lot of fun to work with. Shortly afterwards, we set up our first shoot!
Three Across was a blast to photograph. Our shoot consisted of driving, walking, climbing...you had to be there, but that was an adventure in itself right guys? LOL And if you haven't heard of their music yet...you soon will. They are super talented and totally awesome!

This past weekend I had the pleasure of photographing the Glamour Magazine VIP Ann Taylor Event hosted by the one and only Kimberly Clark of drezrehersal Event Planning Co. and Glamour Magazine Los Angeles Glambassador. It was held at the Ann Taylor at the Glendale Galleria, Glendale, CA.
On hand was guest make-up artist Keesh Winkler-Smith of MakingFacesKeesh and model Chanel Ritchie. Attendees were able to learn about the new line, and see how you could go from day to evening looks! Here is a few of the images of the day!

I feel so honored to be a part of AFWPi! AFWPi stands for the Association for Wedding Professionals International. This month's mixer was hosted by the awesome Kimberly Clark of drezrehersal Event Planning. It was held at the beautiful Angeles National Golf Club in Sunland.

A "Breath of Elegance" Showcase

This weekend I had the pleasure of attending the "Breath of Elegance" bridal showcase put on by Nancy Flores of Flowers on Mars. I met Nancy through a mutual organization we belong to called AFWPI. Nancy is a fun and sweet person! So any bride looking for an event designer, she's your gal!
Look at all of the beautiful displays they had! In attendance were several vendors, to include the awesome Wenda Evans from More than Just Weddings. I met Wenda several years ago at a bridal show I did in Long Beach. Ever since, we've been talking! Wenda is an awesome wedding coordinator who really knows her stuff!

I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a Simply Elegant Workshop help by someone who I consider to be a good friend and mentor, Fernando Basurto. His workshop focused on the aspects of posing models for engagement shoots and weddings. It was a wonderful experience! I highly suggest to anyone to attend one of his fabulous workshops!!!

I am proud to say that I served my country for four years in the United States Air Force. I served from 1992-1996 as an active duty member in the Air Force Special Operation Command, 16th EMS at Hurlburt Field Florida. I I've made many friends, and I'm glad to have known everyone I had worked with.

I just wanted to say a heartfelt, "Thank You" to all of the men and women who have served our country, who are serving, and who will serve. Because of you, we are the land of the free, because of the brave!! THANK YOU!!!!

Wow! I feel like I've struck gold! LOL After weeks (okay, more like months) of trying to figure out how to enlarge my images on my blog...I finally figured it out!!! YAY!

Blogger only allows you to make your images so big. I finally had to go through a third party site to get my images on this site to get the size I want!

So, from now on, keep on coming back to see my new and improved postings!!! Bigger images...better views!!! Whoo-hoo!!!!

I'm stoked!!! (Yes...that's a little 80's to say...but I'm just me, and that word fits!)

Dodie Sy at Brassavolas

Where shall I begin?

I started speaking to/e-mailing Dodie well over a year and a half ago. He was always very nice from the get go. So I decided to give him a try!

I really needed some flowers for my mother and mother-in-law for Mother's Day. Not wanting the typical flower arrangement, I decided to call upon Dodie for his artistic talents.

I'd always seen photos of his work, and admired his creations. But when I got the two bouquets, I was blown away. Not only were they modern, but they were beautifully creative, stunning, and just awesome!!!

I could rave about Dodie all day! He is a great person, with a unique artistic vision that is far and few between nowadays. I will never go to another florist again!!!

I'm in love with taking photos of my kids. Here is an image I shot of my oldest, Chelsea, in front of my new Damask backdrop. How did I do it? I took the backdrop, draped it over my front door (yes..that's right...front door! LOL), and used the natural light coming in to light her. Sometimes the best light is God's light! :-)

Michael's Morning of Golf

When I first met Michael and Susan, I knew right away that we were going to get along. They are such a great couple! Their engagement session was so much fun, that I knew the wedding was going to be something else!

On the day of their wedding Michael had wanted me to photograph him with his father, his brother, and two of his groomsmen playing golf. So at 7:30, I met them on the course, and away we went! I'm new to golf, so it was like nothing I had ever seen. A group of guys bonding, having fun, and playing a game they all enjoy...awesome! And the fact that father and son got to spend some time together on the groom's special day......priceless!!!

I think I'm going to have to take up golf! Thank you so much Michael and Susan for letting me be a part of your wedding day! There are many more images to come!!!!

My brother Bobby and his friend Daniel are owners of Vinci Salon in San Dimas. Bobby decided he wanted to come up with a shoot in the salon. A day were his clients could come in and get the full star treatment. Well....we made it happen. Here are just a few images from the shoot.

I recently joined PhotographyMentor.Com It's a fabulous site created by famed photographer Robert Evans. I recently created a users group called the "Monthly Challenge". This months challenge? To shoot in harsh lighting. Mid-day sun...shadows, light and all.

Well, last night my nephew came over to spend the night. So I thought it would be fun to do a quick photo shoot outside with my daughter included. :-) And since we wanted to be a little silly....we decided to make it a "bully" type of shoot. So my daughter put on some "goth" type make-up and clothes, and proceeded to beat up my nephew. What do you think? LOL....

I've been on Twitter for a few months now, and boy am I enjoying it! A few days ago I was reading a post from Lan Bui http://lanbui.com/. I was interested in his 365 days of photographing his wife Bonny. I thought it was such a cool concept! And when he wrote on twitter that they were open to other photographers, I thought, "I'm in!"

Today I had the opportunity to meet both Lan and Bonny. They are such a great couple! Bonny came out of her front door, and I thought she made the cutest little fairy! So off Bonny and I went to the nearest park to shoot some photos. Here's my fave!

As the New Year fast approaches, it has caused me to look back at 2008. I feel so very blessed to have such a wonderful husband, a loving family, and great friends. God has been good to me.
I'm also very grateful for all of my clients, past, present and future. For without you, there would be no Manalo Empire. So thank you to everyone who has and will come into my life.

Dear bloggers,

I haven't blogged in a while! Sorry, I've been trying to finish tying up loose ends before the New Year begins! LOL I've got a lot of wonderful photos I'm currently working on, and projects I'm in the process of completing...great stuff!
I just finished shooting a Christmas party for the Crystal Casino. Great stuff...wish I could post it, but that one is under wraps. But take my word for it when I say it was a blast!
Another project is a dental office I photographed. Not only was it a great place...but the dentist just happens to be an old high school friend! I'll be posting some of her photos shortly.
All in all, it's been a great 2008. More to come soon! Stay tuned!!!!

A funny one!

Okay...we got a little carried away. But since I knew the bride and the groom, and 4 of the people in the bridal party personally....I thought we'd have a little fun.

Yes, you saw correctly! The MEN have the boquets, and the women are wearing the jackets! I thought it would make for a great photo op.

Of course, when I first made the suggestion, of them switching the outfits and flowers...they were kind of confused. But man did we have fun! This is what came out.

Gotta love it!!!

You guys were awesome!!! I love to have fun at weddings!!!

Susan and Daniel's Wedding

Wow...what can I say? I had the pleasure of shooting Daniel and Susan's wedding this past weekend. It was a very personal wedding for my family and I, as the beautiful bride was marrying my husband's best friend.

Not only did I have fun being a part of a good friends' day, but we also had other friends there too. It was a blast! AND my husband was the best man! (You looked so handsome honey!) :-)~

The beautiful bridesmaid on the right is my close friend and assistant Pearl. (YAY Pearl!) I shot her wedding last year, with the groom's twin brother, Louis! So you see, it was a very fun and touching day for everyone.

Susan looked so beautiful that day. And I don't think I've ever seen Daniel look so dapper! (Okay Louis, since you are his twin...you looked nice too...LOL) But it was just an all around wonderful day.

Right now the couple is on their honeymoon. So when you get back guys...there will be many more photos for you to enjoy!!! I can't wait to see you guys again!!!

I've known Tim Vu for several years now. And when he introduced me to his brother James, and his bride-to-be Angela...Iknew I was going to have a great time at their wedding.

James and Angela are young and full of life. They are both fun and sassy, with rockin' personalities too. But when it comes to being a beautiful bride...Angela is it!

Tina and Co

I had the pleasure of first meeting Tina and Co at Andy and Shu's wedding last year. Tina and Co were both part of the bridal party. Now, it's their turn to get married!

I had a great time photographing them. We went to Pasadena, and found some neat little places to photograph them in. But I must say...this one is my fave. I just loved the way the sun was hitting them from behind...just a sweet glowing light.

I can't wait for the wedding guys!!! Whoo-hoo!

OM Gosh! I was trying to take care of some things this morning while my youngest was in his bouncer. I loved how the window light was falling on him from behind...he just looked so angelic! (I had to be quick though...because he can bounce furiously in that thing!)

He's quite possibly the cutest boy ever!!!

Okay, so I'm biased...but I'm his mommy! What do you expect!!! ;p

Now if I can just get my youngest girl to come out of hiding, and my oldest off the internet for some more photos! LOL.... They don't know it yet....but Monday will be family picture day! Whoo-hoo!!! :-)~

I just wanted to take the time to say thank you to everyone! Thank you so much to all of my clients who have been so awesome to me! I appreciate you allowing me to come into your lives, and capture those moments that are so precious to you. I haven't met a bridezilla yet, so thank you! I have the best clients ever!!!!! Thank you to my family! My family who is so sweet, and so supportive and loving. I do it all for you! My kids are beautiful, and I'm so blessed to have them. Aarah and Albert

Here are a few of my favorites from Aarah and Albert's wedding. Albert's father had this great looking classic car! So of course, I had to give this photo a "vintage" type of look!

I also chose the other photos for their romantic appeal. I love the glow of Aarah in the doorway. And she's so pretty as she's looking down at her flowers.

And last but not least, I adore how classic, but modern the last photo is. Just too cool!

Daniel and my husband are childhood friends. They've known eachother since the second grade. And when Daniel announced that he was engaged to Susan, it was only natural that I offer to do their shoot! So here are a few samples of the day we spent at my local (secret) park...LOL

Don't be fooled! Looking this good didn't come easy! It was about 100 degrees the day we shot this, and there wasn't much of a breeze! We walked a lot...up hill...both ways! (Not in the snow...LOL) In the flaming heat...sweating! (Them more than me.) And they had all of those clothes on!!! What troopers!!!

I can't wait til the wedding guys!!!! :-) Whoo-hoo!!!!!!!

Nikon or Canon?

Hmmmmm.... I've had many people ask me which is better. There is no simple answer. They are both great camera's when it comes to the SLR market. They have similar capabilities, speeds, etc... I have good friends who are Canon shooters and Nikon shooters. But as for me? I choose Nikon.

Whichever you choose, just keep in mind that once you make your choice...you have to build up from there. Canon only uses canon lenses, and Nikon, it's own lenses respectively. You can't switch them out. Of course there are "generic" lenses you can use...but once you choose a brand, you're pretty much have to build up on your arsenal from there.

One of my best friends and mentor shoots Canon. And he's an awesome, AWESOME photographer! (You know who you are Mr. Gaytan!) So I can't knock Canon or the man behind the lens! But when choosing a camera, it just comes down to personal preference. They are both awesome cameras.

But as for me? I'm a Nikon girl... I'm in love with my Nikons! It could be because it's the first REAL camera I ever had...I don't know. But...the colors are sooo pretty! Yes, I'm a girlie girl and I love pretty things. :-)

Ahhhh...I love my Nikons! A "photo girl" can never have too much camera equipment!

(To my husband) "Honey, can I have another camera?" LOL :-)~

Lotus and Guang

Lotus and Guang were such a cool couple to work with! They let me get a little creative, and because they were so easy-going, it made the whole day really fun. Lotus was really good about getting dirty and climbing on things in her wedding dress...she was such a good sport! Not to mention getting her to get on top of the piano, climbing tiny stairs at the Mission in high heels, you name it... she did it! So here are just some of the shots I took on their wedding day.
